12 Inspiration Ideas for Christian Writers

We all need new sources of inspiration from time to time. When the well is dry and routine is just too…routine.

Here are twelve ideas to help you trigger inspiration and more joy, whether for life or your writing project.

1. Flip your schedule. If you’ve been writing at night, start writing in the morning for a while.

2. Deactivate from social media temporarily. Embrace a little boredom and see what your creativity does with it.

3. Research, book, and/or go on a vacation. (Preferably all of the above.)

4. Write a handwritten letter to a friend or family member.

5. Rework your author bio as if for a ten year old, explaining why you write and what you want people to feel when they read your work.

6. See a movie in theaters—alone!

7. Host some friends for dinner, and invite them to share their funniest stories from their childhood.

8. Take your office outdoors or to a new venue.

9. Watch a new TV series that is in a totally different genre from what you’re used to.

10. Get a second-hand copy of your favorite author’s best book and outline it. Write down everything you love about it. Highlight it to within an inch of its life.

11. Interview another artist. Ask him or her what inspires them and why they love what they do.

12. Rent a photograph-based book from the library about a topic that interests you. It doesn’t have to be even remotely related to your current WIP. In fact, it would e better if it wasn’t.
